Interested landowners, land managers, local, state and federal agencies, and stakeholders are invited to participate in a Sacramento Valley “Regional Local Work Group Meeting” scheduled for August 27th in Orland, CA.
Historically, Farm Bill (FB) funds were provided on a county by county basis. As of 2012, nationally, the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) changed how FB funds would be distributed to field offices. FB funds are now delivered through regional funding pools. These regional funding pools typically involve numerous counties with similar resource concerns. As an example, the Sacramento Valley – Rangeland regional fund pool, encompasses all of the counties within the Sacramento Valley Region of RCDs. All applications within a regional funding pool are competitively ranked based on environmental benefit. Again, this change was mandated by the NRCS Chief in Washington, D.C. and is now being implemented nationwide.
It is important that all stakeholders provide input and help shape the delivery of FB funding to address the highest priority resource issue(s) in the region. This meeting will also help to explain the funding allocation approach and answer any questions about how NRCS cost-share programs may benefit farms or ranches.
The Sacramento Valley “Regional Local Work Group Meeting” will begin with registration at 9 am on August 27th at the Glenn County Farm Bureau’s conference room, located at 831 5th Street in Orland, CA 95963. If you are unable to attend, you may request a survey to fill out and return by September 30th. For more details, call 530-934-4601 x5.
