In September 2015, RCD will be facilitating installation of a Fuel Break under the Glenn County Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP) in western Glenn County.
In partnership with CAL FIRE, CAL FIRE Valley View Camp crews will work along Highway 162 between the Stony Gorge Reservoir entrance to approximately County Road 302 west of Willows, first on the south side of the highway then on the north side of the highway, to install the Fuel Break. They will be installing a 6 to 10 foot wide Fuel Break, which will be a scrape using hand tools. Our agreement with them is to work only in the CAL TRANS right-of-way (not private property), for up to 60 days until March 2017.
It is our goal to install this Fuel Break for fire prevention and to protect resources as we see more wildfires each summer in northern California. In addition, we hope to secure additional funding and/or resources to ensure this project is maintained well past the initial implementation period.
