Glenn County Resource Conservation District Seeks Nominations for Award

In an effort to recognize good stewards of "Glenn County" land, Glenn County RCD is now accepting nominations for the Conservationist of the Year Award.

The deadline for nominations is May 7, 2010 at 5:00 p.m. Submit nomination information describing the following to:  Glenn County RCD, ATTN:  Kandi Manhart, 132 North Enright Avenue, Suite B, Willows, CA 95988 or email kandi.manhart@ca.nacdnet.net or fax (530) 934-8667.

A. Minimum Qualifications:

Glenn County landowner or land manager

B. Criteria:

1. Responsible and sustainable land management

2. Incorporates value of economics

3. Innovative and thinks creatively

4. Considers overall resource health

5. Community outreach/education and leadership

C. Nominations:

Please answer the following:

1. Describe the nominee’s approach to land and resource management and how it may have changed over the years.

2. Describe the nominee’s efforts in conservation and how they have contributed to a healthy landscape in Glenn County.

3. Describe how the nominee has increased efficiency and/or is working towards long-term sustainability and conservation values in the RCD’s priority areas:

a. Water Resources (water quality, quantity, surface, sub-surface)

b. Loss of Ag Land & Urban Encroachment

c. Range Management

d. Weed Control (invasive species)

e. Loss of Habitat

f. Air Quality

g. Alternative Energy

h. Education of Natural Resources

4. Describe other relevant factors that would identify their dedication and efforts to conserve our natural resources.

D. Review and Selection:

a. All nominations will be reviewed by the selection committee.

b. Selection will be made by consensus at the regular meeting on May 17.

E. Presentation:

a. Recipient and nominator of the award will be notified prior to the Annual B-B-Q.

b. Award will be presented at the Annual B-B-Q on Thursday, May 27.
