Since 1987, the local Resource Conservation District (RCD) has offered an Annual Speak–Off Contest for High School students. Created by the California Association of Resource Conservation Districts (CARCD), this contest is open to all Glenn County students in the 9th – 12th grade levels.
This year’s speech topic is “Why do we need to act to save the monarch butterfly? What can RCDs do to help?”. Interested students may show off their talents by preparing a 3-5 minutes speech on the topic.
Speakers will first provide the speech at the local level. The top speaker will advance to the regional contest. The top regional speaker will advance to the State contest. In addition to the possibility of advancing, in the local Glenn County contest, first place wins $100, second place wins $75, and third place wins $50.
The winning speaker will advance to the regional contest, to be held at the Sacramento Valley Region of RCDs Fall meeting in Orland (October 22, 2019). If chosen at the regional level, the speaker will have the opportunity to represent their school, RCD, and county at the CARCD annual meeting held in Redding (November 14, 2019).
