In September 2015, RCD began facilitating installation of a Fuel Break under the Glenn County Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP) in western Glenn County.
In partnership with CAL FIRE, CAL FIRE Valley View Camp crews worked along Highway 162 between the Stony Gorge Reservoir entrance to approximately County Road 302 west of Willows, first on the south side of the highway then on the north side of the highway, to install the Fuel Break. They installed a 4 to 6 foot wide Fuel Break, which was a scrape using hand tools. Our agreement with them was to work only in the CAL TRANS right-of-way (not private property), for up to 60 days until March 2017.
It is our goal to maintain this Fuel Break for fire prevention and to protect resources as we see more wildfires each summer in northern California.
